EFCC Arraigns Businessman Over N3.2m Scam


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today April 12, 2017 arraigned one Owen Njoku before Justice Sailu Saidu of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on one court charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of Three Million, Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N3, 250, 000.00) only.

The accused person allegedly collected the sum of Three Million from one Odigwe Cletus for the purchase of three plots of land situated at Ohia Ugiri, Igbo-Etche Rivers State which was later discovered to be false.

Zambian opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema has been charged with treason, police said on Wednesday, after he allegedly refused to give way to President Edgar Lungu’s motorcade on a main road.
Hichilema has said he does not recognise Lungu as president and has refused to accept the result of last year’s presidential election.
“We have charged Hichilema and five others with treason,” Zambian police chief Kakoma Kanganja told reporters in Lusaka.

The Nigeria Railway Corporation says that the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail would begin on April 14.

The Managing Director, NRC, Mr Fidet Okhiria, on Wednesday in Lagos advised those who had encroached on the NRC land to start packing their belongings, to avoid their property being destroyed by bulldozers.

“Those that are due for compensation will be compensated because it is part of the contract.

“But those who encroached on the land have to leave the premises as soon as possible because the constructions will begin on Friday.

68 Nigerians Deported From Ghana, Mali And Burkina Faso


68 persons have been deported by the trio of Ghana, Mali and Burkina Faso, this was confirmed by the Acting Director General, National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons (NAPTIP), Mr Abdulrazak Dangiri today (Wednesday 12th April).

He said, 37 were deported from Mali, 25 from Burkina Faso and six from Ghana according to him, the victims were arrested by police in the three countries, handed over to Nigerian embassies and subsequently transported back home.

An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday remanded a 40-year-old bricklayer, Edet Imoh, in prison, charged with molesting a sex worker. Imoh is facing a two-count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse and stealing. The prosecutor, Sgt. Nicholas Akpene, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 11 at 2.30a.m. on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.

A National Commissioner and member of the Information and Voter Education Committee at INEC, Mallam Mohammed Haruna, who briefed journalists after a meeting of the leadership of the commission on Tuesday, said the commission also decided to place the 205 affected officials on half salaries in accordance with the terms and conditions of service of the commission.
Haruna said the commission had referred the cases of a former National Commissioner and five former Resident Electoral Commissioners (one late) to the Presidency and the EFCC for further action and investigation.

A whistle blower has helped the Economic and Financial Crimes commission uncover a whopping N4billion hidden in a former deputy governorship candidate in Niger State.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has uncovered the two bank accounts containing a joint sum of N2bn suspected to be the proceeds of crime. This was revealed in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren.

Uwujaren further revealed that the money belongs to a former deputy governorship candidate in Niger State. He further noted that the money was found based on a tip-off from a whistle-blower.
