Court Orders Lagos State Government Staff to Forfeit Over N300m Found in His Account


The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the temporary forfeiture of the sum of N329,469,435 found in the bank accounts of the Director of Accounts, Ministry of Public Works Corporation, Lagos State, Anifowoshe Alade.

A report by Punch revealed that the order was given by Justice Rilwan Aikawa on Wednesday based on an ex parte application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Doctors have removed a six-inch ice pick from a man’s back after he was attacked on the street by a stranger. Rakesh Kumar, 27, from Delhi, was allegedly walking to the bus station on his way to work when he was randomly stabbed in the back by a passer-by.

The pick pierced his left lung, leaving Mr Kumar fighting for his life.

A judge of the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court, Rilwan Aikawa, has ordered a Congo-based businessman to forfeit $700,000 out of the $1.9 million he allegedly laundered to the Federal Government.

Paulinus Ani, who initially claimed to be a Congolese, entered into a plea bargain arrangement with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after the anti-graft agency charged him with money laundering.

Lagos shuts 11 hotels over N354.75m tax evasion


The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) on Thursday shut 11 hotels, restaurants and event centres over alleged failures to remit their taxes under the hotel occupancy and restaurant consumption laws of Lagos state 2009.

Seyi Alade, director, legal services of the LIRS, said this after a state-wide tax law enforcement exercise in Lagos, adding that the firms owed the state government N354.75 million in unpaid taxes.
