Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema were on the scoresheet as a Real Madrid side shorn of several stars continued their impressive form with a 4-0 victory over Alaves.

Ronaldo took his 2018 goal tally to 12 with a brace either side of a cool finish from Bale, whose long-term future at Madrid has been the subject of speculation this week.

A 66-year-old woman was mauled to death by a huge crocodile on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, police said Saturday.

The Indonesian woman’s family and neighbours launched a search after she failed to return home from a riverside garden near the remote village of Teluk Kuali in Jambi province earlier this week.

A drug kingpin dubbed Ecuador’s “Pablo Escobar” who was under arrest in Colombia was extradited to the United States early Saturday, local officials said here.

Washington Prado, also known as “Gerard,” faces charges of moving more than 250 tonnes of Colombian cocaine from Ecuador’s Pacific coast to Central America and beyond to the United States, Colombian prosecutors said in a statement.

Police arraign Enugu psychiatric hospital staff over N14m job scam


The Nigeria Police Force on Monday arraigned Mrs. Stella Achara, a staff of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu, over an alleged N14 million job scam.

Achara, Principal Secretary to the Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Jojo Onwukwe, was docked before Hon. Justice C. O. Ajah of Enugu High Court for advanced fee fraud.

In the charge No. E/197C/2017, the police accused Achara of defrauding job seekers to the tune of N14m.

Investigation has revealed that the Dana Air aircraft, which skidded off the runway earlier in the week was 27 years and 3 months as at the time of its crash.

The aircraft, an MD83 with the registration number 5N-SRI was manufactured in November 1990 and was among the oldest aircraft in the fleet of the airline.

Scientists may soon be able to extend fertility in women


Scientists have identified a drug that could extend egg fertility in worms, which they say may also extend women’s fertility by three to six years.

According to Science Daily, an American science news website, Coleen Murphy, who led the study, specialises in using microscopic worms, Caenorhabditis elegans (C.elegans) to study longevity because it has many of the same genes as humans.

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria on Saturday advised state governors who could not address workers’ problems to resign.

The TUC President, Mr Bobboi Kaigama, said in Lagos that workers could no longer vouch for state governments that non-payment of salaries was as a result of lack of funds.

Troops in Borno killed five Boko Haram insurgents and captured a top commander of the group in the ongoing operation in Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad basin.

Deputy Director, Army Public Relations of Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Onyeama Nwachukwu, in a statement in Maiduguri, said troops also rescued three civilians, recovered vehicles and high calibre ammunition in various operations in the past two days.

The National Economic Council Committee on Farmers and Herdsmen clashes on Saturday visited Zamfara on a fact-finding mission over security challenges in the state.

The committee was led by its Chairman, Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi.

Speaking during the courtesy visit at government house Gusau, the Umahi said “we are in Zamfara today for fact-finding over the recent security challenges faced by the state”.

Information just gathered says that the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have seized illegal drugs allegedly hidden in indomie cartons.

The NDLEA, Adamawa Command, have reportedly found 1.31 tonnes of illicit drugs which were concealed in noodles’ cartons.

Jadesola Agbalade (51) pleaded guilty to one count of knowingly distributing child pornography on July 20, 2016.
