Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck is closing in on a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur as Roberto Soldado nears a loan switch to Juventus.
The Red Devils are believed to be prepared to offload Welbeck this summer with reports claiming that United want up to £16million for the 23-year-old.
Arsenal were thought to be tracking the England international but, according to The Express, The Gunners’ rivals Spurs are now in pole position to secure Welbeck’s signature before the transfer window shuts on 1 September.
It is claimed that Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to recruit Welbeck to reinforce his attacking options and provide competition for Emmanuel Adebayor and Harry Kane.
And with reports in Italy suggesting that Juve have enquired about signing Soldado on a season-long loan, Spurs are confident that they will be able to seal a deal for Welbeck in the coming days.
