Kate Henshaw has revealed intention to return the funds raised for baby Micheal’s care back to the donors with a plea for others to stop deposits into the fundraising account.
According to the actress, she and NGO Project Alert will be returning the funds as a result if an unending dispute with Micheal’s family.
Kate Henshaw generated awareness of Baby Micheal Alvez’s plight, a 2-year-old boy with a cancerous growth on his face, which helped raised over 9 million with the involvement of NGO, Project Alert on Violence Against Women, and the Lagos State Government.
The 45-year-old actress located the boy and his sex-worker mother during which he was was admitted to LUTH, Idi Araba, after which Henshaw and the boy’s family disagreed over the management of funds.
According to Punch,Kate disclosed thatthe baby is now in the care of his family and the government after the Michael’s family requested for the withdrawal of the actress and Project Alert.
The statement released by the NGOreads thus:
“As an organisation, Project Alert believes in transparency and accountability. In the last one year, we raised a total sum of N9.8m to help Michael, and spent N1.8m. The account has been duly audited by an audit firm Bamisile and Co. Since the family has asked us to withdraw, we believe it is right that we inform the public and refund the money to those who donated it.
