Within the past decade, nearly 12,000 American women, including undocumented, resident aliens and naturalised citizens, were murdered by their current or estranged lovers. This number clearly is more than the number of American soldiers killed in the recent wars against terrorism.
Last Wednesday, Osa Alohaneke, a Nigerian resident in Texas, added his estranged fiancée, Evelyne Ebane Epiepang to the sad statistics.

Niger Delta Youths Task Buhari On Infrastructure, Sustaining Amnesty


Niger DeltaNiger Delta youths under the aegis of Bridge Builders Of Nigeria (BOND) have called on the incoming administration to address problems of infrastructure and widespread poverty in the Niger Delta.

This is coming ahead of the May 29 swearing-in of General Muhammadu Buhari as the President of Nigeria.

APC Zones Senate Presidency To North Central, Speaker To North East

Arising from a meeting in Abuja Thursday night, the national leaders and national caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have officially zoned the office of the Senate President in the 8th Senate to the North central geo-political zone, while the Speaker of the House of Representatives was zoned to the North-east geo-political zone.

A source at the APC meeting which lasted till the wee-hours of Friday told THISDAY that the party leaders accepted in principle a prototype office sharing formula that would accommodate all vested interests within the party.

The source said: “After deft negotiations, the leaders agreed to cede the position of the Senate President to the North-central and that of the Speaker of the House of Representatives to the North-east. They also endorsed a zoning arrangement that would see the South-west producing the Deputy Senate President and South-south, Deputy Speaker.”

Anambra PDP Will Cooperate With APGA — Peter Obi


The former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has assured that the PDP members in the National Assembly will work with APGA for the ultimate good and progress of the State. He said this yesterday during the presentation of Certificates of Return to those that won the Senatorial and House of Representatives seats in the State.

Flanked by the Senator-elect for Anambra South, Sen. Andy Uba; Hon. Uche Ekwunife (Central); and Princess Stella Oduah (Anambra North), Obi said that the benefit of having three of them in one party was that they would work together for the good of Anambra State in particular and Nigeria in general. He expressed happiness that Anambra has ranking members in House to ensure that the State benefitted from distribution of Committees and other related matters.

Saraki Denies Collecting Money From Diezani For APC


Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on Friday described as untrue, a media report (not in The PUNCH) that the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, donated huge sums of money through him to fund the activities of the All Progressives Congress.

Saraki, in a statement by his media aide, Bamikole Omisore, said he had never engaged Alison-Madueke or any of her agents in any form of discussion, let alone receiving money from her for the APC.

Police Arrest 18 Year-old Lady, 2 Others For Kidnapping


The Kano state Police command has arrested an 18 years-old lady, alongside two others who partake in the kidnapped of 4-year –old child last Tuesday in Tudun Wada Local Government Area.

The kidnappers demanded a ransom of 3 Million Naira and threatened to kill the innocent child if they refuse to adhere to their demand.
This is just as the kidnappers said they wanted to use the ransom demanded to establish a poultry farm.

Davido & Driver Allegedly Assault MC Galaxy, Inflict Injury On Sekem Crooner


Popular Sekem crooner MC Galaxy has claimed that the HKN front man David Adeleke better known as Davido attacked him two days ago in Shizzi’s studio and he was badly injured.

According to the claim by industry source, MC Galaxy, Davido, B-Red, Shizzi, Davido’s driver, a guy named Lati and other HKN members were at Shizzi’s studio working and laughing when suddenly things turned ugly.

PDP Won’t Insult Buhari The Way APC Attacks Jonathan – Metuh


The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh has said that the party will provide a decent and credible opposition that will constructively proffer sound alternatives to the policies and programmes of the in-coming administration without recourse to insults, propaganda and deceit.

Metuh who stated this at an FRCN political programme on Thursday evening said the PDP would never insult or denigrate the office and person of the Nigerian President.

Boko Haram Slits The Throats Of 12 People In Gwoza, Borno


Boko Haram militants have slit the throats of 12 people in Gwosa town, Borno State, as the army was trying to evacuate civilians from the area, a military source and a witness said on Friday.
The militants have been driven out of much of the huge swathe of territory they controlled at the start of the year, thanks to a concerted push by troops from Nigeria and neighbours – Chad, Niger and Cameroon.
