North Korea executes 5 senior officials


SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea executed five senior security officials with anti-aircraft guns because they made false reports that "enraged" leader Kim Jong Un, South Korea's spy agency said Monday.

The comments by the National Intelligence Service in a private briefing to lawmakers come as Malaysia investigates the poisoning death of Kim's estranged elder half brother, Kim Jong Nam. That investigation is still going on, but South Korea says it believes Kim Jong Un ordered the assassination, which took place Feb. 13 at Kuala Lumpur's airport.

Gambia: President Barrow Sacks Army Chief


Gambian President Adama Barrow has sacked the country's head of armed forces, Gen Ousman Badjie.

BBC reports that General Badjie has reportedly been replaced by his predecessor General Masanneh Kinteh.

Gen Badjie declared his loyalty to the former President Yahya Jammeh after December's disputed elections.

41 Nigerian Young Female Human Trafficking Victims Cover Their Faces in Shame as They Return Home


After almost two days of waiting for their arrival, 41 Nigerian human trafficking victims who were all women in their 20s or younger, returned home from Mali on Monday.

A total of 41 Nigerian human trafficking victims returned home from Mali late on Monday and were spotted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos as they touched down at 7:25p.m. last night.

Why We Usually Target Female Drivers During Our Operations - Vehicle Snatching Suspects


A gang of suspected armed inter-state armed robbers which specialised in dispossessing victims of their cars and valuables has been arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of Oyo State Police Command. The gang, it was learnt, usually target female drivers.

The arrested suspects included Gbene Emmanuel (27), Akhigbe Andrew (35), Augustine Helen (27), said to be the gang’s armourer, Godwin Ngozi (38), Ogedegbe Famous (23), Owolabi Adegoke (29), Adebayo Muyiwa (54), Pelemo Samuel (28) and Oni Niyi (35).

Speaking during a press briefing last week, the state Commissioner of Police, Sam Adegbuyi said that the gang attacked one Omobola (surname withheld) and attempted to snatch her Toyota Corolla ca at gun point as she was about to drive into her residence at Elebu area of Ibadan.

UK Police Commence Probe of Popular Nigerian Pastor's Church Over 5 Million Pounds Ponzi Scam


The City of London police are investigating an alleged fraud involving a former Premier League footballer who lost £3.9m from one of Britain’s richest evangelical churches in a disastrous investment scheme.

The criminal investigation follows a Charity Commission report into “mismanagement” at Kingsway International Christian Centre, which invested £5m with the former Charlton Athletic player Richard Rufus. Rufus was found by a civil court judge in 2015 to have operated a Ponzi-style scheme between 2007 and 2011, losing or spending £8m from several investors.

The wife of Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state returned home on Sunday, February 12, after welcoming a set of quadruplets in the US.

The first lady of Bayelsa state, Racheal Dickson, in September 2016 welcomed a set of quadruplets, a boy and three girls, after many years of childlessness.

Mechanic kills sales boy for scratching customer’s car


The police in Lagos State have launched a manhunt for a mechanic, Fatai Bashiru, for allegedly killing a sales boy, Shedrach Emenike, aka Chiboy, in the Papa Ajao, Mushin area of the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Bashiru stabbed the 23-year-old in the armpit and other parts of his body for allegedly scratching a car belonging to his customer.

The victim was rushed to a general hospital where he was confirmed dead.

A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously ruled that the Trump administration failed to offer any evidence that national security concerns justified immediately restoring the ban, which was launched late last month.

Arik Air Vows To Challenge Nigerian Government Takeover


The management of Arik Air on Thursday said it would challenge the taking over of the airline by the Assets Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) in court.

Ado Sanusi, Senior Vice President, Arik Air made the disclosure at a joint news conference with the newly appointed receiver manager, Oluseye Opasanya, and the airline’s technical consultant, Roy Ilegbodu.

The asset company had on Thursday taken over the airline following its huge indebtedness to local and foreign creditors.

EFCC raids former NNPC boss, Andrew Yakubu’s home in Kaduna, allegedly recover $9.2m, £72,000


Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, raided the home of former Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Andrew Yakubu in Kaduna state on Wednesday and allegedly recovered $9.2 million in his safe.

According to Vanguard, also recovered after the raid was £72,000 which is reportedly the largest sum of cash the commission had recovered in recent weeks.

Yakubu who served as NNPC boss from 2012 to 2014 during the Goodluck Jonathan administration, was arraigned by the anti-graft agency in June 2016 on allegations of money laundering.

Wikipedia bans quotations of The Daily Mail for being "generally unreliable"


Wikipedia has barred citations of The Daily Mail after editors of the online encyclopedia concluded on February 8, 2017 that the British tabloid is "generally unreliable." 

The decision came after years of long debate over the Daily Mail's credibility among Wikipedia's active community of volunteer editors. The editors explained that the decision stemmed from "the Daily Mail's reputation for poor fact checking, sensationalism, and flat-out fabrication." 

Plane goes up in flames on tarmac at JFK airport


A very surprising incident occurred last night at the JFK airport tarmac. An Argentina Airlines flight bound for Buenos Aires caught fire as it prepared to take off. The pilot reported the fire incident, but when rescue trucks arrived, they found no evidence of fire.

Pictures taken of the plane shows the jet with flames spewing from the fuselage. The fire was caught on camera by a passenger on board a different plane on the runway and she tweeted about it.
