Former commissioner docked for alleged land racketeering in Kano


The Kano State High Court on Friday rejected the no-case submission by a former commissioner of land in Ganduje’s administration, Farouk Bibi, accused of selling a plot of land belonging to a former minister of the FCT, Jeremiah Useni, to one Baba Sharu.

The defence counsel, A.T. Kehinde, argued that, the evidence presented by prosecution was not enough to warrant the charge against the accused.

Pastor seeks divorce from third wife


A pastor in an unnamed church, Mr Paul Dawodu, has asked an Ikorodu Customary Court in Lagos State to dissolve his 18-year-old marriage with his wife, Adijat, over her abusive behaviour.

The petitioner on Wednesday sought the dissolution of the marriage on grounds that his wife was quarrelsome and usually abused people verbally.

39-year-old Adeola Williams, popularly known as Ade Lawyer, who is a father of three from Ijebu Igbo in Ogun State, was recently arrested by the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team over the killing of one Ganiyu Ayinla, aka Pinero, who was the personal assistant to Azeez Adekunle Lawal, the National Union of Road Transport Workers chairman in Idumota, Lagos. The incident took place on January 23.

While giving account of his activities, he said, “Assassination has been the source of my livelihood for more than a decade now and I know I have taken many lives that I can’t even count but God knows I am a new person now.

800 APC members defect to PDP in Kwara


No fewer than 800 members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State have defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
NAN reports that Mr Iyiola Oyedepo, the Chairman of PDP in the state, received the defectors in Ilorin on Friday during the visit of executive members of the party in the North Central Zone.

Manchester United have confirmed Marcos Rojo has signed a contract extension that will see him tied to the club until at least 2021.

Man arrested for impregnating 14-year-old daughter


A 40-year-old man, Dominic Johnson, has been arrested and arraigned for defiling his 14-year old daughter and impregnating her.

The incident occurred at Onitire Avenue in Abaranje area of Ikotun, Lagos State, where they resided.

It was reported that the victim had been delivered of a baby girl when they were brought before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court where Johnson was arraigned on Wednesday.

Catholic assembly supports anti-open grazing laws, ranching


The General Assembly of the Catholic Diocese of Jalingo has called on the Federal Government to do more to bring the protracted herdsmen and farmers’ clashes to an end.

The Catholic Diocese had made the call in a communiqué issued at the end of its 18th General Assembly held at St. Charles Borromeo Pastoral Centre, Jalingo, and signed by the Bishop of the Diocese, The Most Reverend Charles Hammawa, and Chancellor, Very Reverend Fr. Anthony Nzinang, in which it condemned the level of insecurity in the country.

Suspected herdsmen behead man, burn houses in Plateau


Despite the imposition of a dusk to dawn curfew, a man identified as Joseph Alli, 23, has been killed and beheaded by suspected Fulani herdsmen during a fresh attack on Rotsu village, Miango District in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The assailants were said to have helped themselves to the food the victim was about to eat and also taken his head away. Thereafter, the assailants were said to have set many houses ablaze.

The most streamed artist on Spotify, whose latest hit “God’s Plan” has spent the last seven weeks at number one on the US singles chart, made waves this week when he joined the streaming video-game platform Twitch.

His livestream — on which he joined the shoot-’em’-up adventure “Fortnite” with players including video-game star Ninja — drew 628,000 viewers, Twitch said, far outpacing the previous record of 388,000.

15 killed in Kenya floods, scores of families displaced


Kenyan officials said Friday that at least 15 people have drowned and scores of families have been displaced across the East African nation during two days of heavy rainfall that caused flooding in urban and rural areas.

The deaths happened as flood and river waters swept through Kenyan towns that had experienced drought months earlier, officials said. Kenya declared the drought a national disaster that put thousands of people at risk of starvation last year.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government has sacked dozens of workers paid by the government to work on Robert Mugabe’s private properties in another setback for the former Zimbabwean president, a newspaper said Friday.

Those affected were working at Mugabe’s rural homestead in Zvimba and his Highfield farm, west of Harare.
