Photos: Wayne Rooney arrives for training in chauffeur-driven car

Wayne Rooney was yesterday banned from driving for two years after he pleaded guilty to being almost three times over the limit while driving a motor vehicle and carrying a female passenger, and putting other road users at risk.

He has been spotted slumped down in the passenger seat of a Range Rover as he arrived Everton’s Finch Farm for training this morning.

The former England captain issued a grovelling apology yesterday after he was given a two-year ban for being almost three times the drink-drive limit when he was stopped at the wheel of a car with a Laura Simpson, a woman he had just met in a nightclub.

The footballer, whose marriage to wife Coleen now hangs in the balance, now faces having to be driven to 75-mile round trip to training and back, as well lifts to matches and to his community service.

To add insult to injury, the route will take him past the Symposium nightclub in Wilmslow, Cheshire from where he drove Miss Simpson home and his night of shame began.

Wayne Rooney’s two-year drink-drive ban could end up costing him nearly £500,000.
The striker was fined two weeks’ wages – totalling £320,000 – by Everton for the offence – the former England skipper was also given a 12-month community order and 100 hours community service at court on Monday.

This excludes the bill of up to £120,000 that having a chauffeur drive him to and from Everton’s training ground will cost him.
