The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, yesterday, said his party would stop killings, poverty and hunger in the country if it returned to the Presidency in 2019.

Secondus, who led members of his National Working Committee (NWC), to witness a mega rally in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, to mark the 6th anniversary of Governor Seriake Dickson administration, said the brooms of the All Progressives Party (APC) brought killings and vengeance to the country.

Mechanic in court for allegedly stabbing man with broken bottle


A 24-year-old auto mechanic, Mathew Adejumo, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for stabbing a man with a broken bottle.

The accused, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count of stabbing, assault, and breach of peace.

18 new sexual abuse claims against UN peacekeepers in DR Congo


The United Nations said Wednesday it had registered 18 alleged cases of sexual abuse and exploitation by its peacekeepers and civilian personnel in the Democratic Republic of the Congo last year.

Fourteen of the allegations involve paternity cases or complainants seeking “care for children born out of relationships,” said Adama Ndao, head of the conduct and discipline unit at Monusco, the UN’s peacekeeping mission in the country.

The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has approved with immediate effect the dissolution of the 36 State Sport Associations, excluding the State Football Association, under the supervision of the Lagos State Sports Commission.

A mother of five, Tawakalitu Kareem, yesterday told a customary court in Mapo, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, that the only things her husband, Bolaji Kareem, liked about her were her money and sex. 

Tawakalitu, who had approached the court to ask for the dissolution of her marriage to Kareem, alleged that her husband was “careless about the family’s welfare, house rent, feeding,  school fees of the children and other functions of a family head.”

Parents and guardians in Imo State who send their kids to hawk when they should be in school would be arrested. Governor Rochas Okorocha, who read the riot act to them yesterday, said parents have no reason to keep their children and wards away from school.

Five killed in crash with DR Congo presidential motorcade


Three soldiers and two civilians were killed and 11 other people injured in an accident involving DR Congo President Joseph Kabila’s motorcade, his office said Wednesday.

The accident happened on a road in the southwest of the country, 220 kilometres south of Kinshasa, as Kabila was returning to the capital on Tuesday.

29-Year-Old Woman Arrested For Torturing Her Stepdaughters With Hot Knife And Pepper


A 10-year-old girl, Vera, and her younger sister, Favour, five, are grappling with injuries inflicted on them by their stepmother.

The woman, Chidima Nnachi, reportedly beat up Vera, rubbed pepper on her eyes and burned her back with a hot knife.

She also reportedly injured Favour on the forehead and inserted pepper in her eyes for allegedly soiling her body.
