Man found innocent after spending 50 years in jail for rape


Nearly 50 years since a Louisiana man was sentenced to life in prison in the kidnapping and rape of a nurse,  a judge has overturned his conviction. He is expected to walk out of prison Wednesday morning a free man.

State District Court Judge Richard Anderson previously said the case against Wilbert Jones, 65, was “weak at best” and that authorities withheld evidence that could have exonerated Jones decades ago.

62 Year- Old- Man Jailed 5 Years Over Possession Of Hard Drugs


A Federal High Court sitting in Jos on Wednesday sentenced a 62-year-old man, Hycinth Njoku, to five years imprisonment for unlawful possession of hard drugs. Njoku was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to the crime and begged for leniency.

Mrs. Ramatu Oketola, prosecution counsel to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), had told the court that Njoku, a resident of New Layout Quarters in Bokkos, Plateau State, was arrested on July 27, by NDLEA officials.

Oil exploration in North East, for ‘good of the country’ – Kachikwu


The Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, says oil exploration in the North East is for the good of the nation. He said this during “Overview of 2018 Budget Proposal” on Tuesday in Abuja.

Military vehicles outside Zimbabwe capital as treason claims fly


Several armoured vehicles drove down main roads near the Zimbabwean capital Harare Tuesday, as tension erupted between President Robert Mugabe and the military that has been a key buttress to his 37-year reign.

In an incendiary statement, Mugabe’s ZANU-PF party accused army chief General Constantino Chiwenga of “treasonable conduct” for challenging Mugabe over the sacking of the vice president.

Tragedy as Mother of four loses five babies in one day


A Kenyan mother who gave birth to extremely rare naturally-conceived quintuplets has lost all five babies, according to a hospital in the south-west of the country.

The mother, Jacintah Akinyi, 30 – who did not know she was carrying five babies – went into labour on Sunday and gave birth to two babies at home, who both died, before being transferred to the Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital.
