Married father of 5 beats his girlfriend to death on her birthday, over infidelity


The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old father of five, who allegedly beat his girlfriend to death over suspected infidelity, on the deceased’s birthday, July 28.
It was gathered that the deceased, identified simply as Happiness, visited her lover’s home at 5/7 Michael Osisipi Street, off Banjo Oyewele Street, Ago Palace Way, from where they went to a club around the area to celebrate her birthday.

A 55-year-old Catholic priest has been arrested in the Philippines for allegedly booking a 13-year-old girl for sex through a pimp, police and church officials said on Tuesday.

A police report said Monsignor Lagarejos was arrested on Friday as he brought the girl to a motel in Manila’s suburban city of Marikina.

Oriyomi Hamzat, a radio presenter in Ibadan, Oyo state, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Magistrates for the alleged murder of a 17-year-old boy.

Police arrested the defendant after the body of the young man was found in his car.

According to reports, the deceased was an orphan raised in an unregistered orphanage home, which allegedly belongs to the suspect.

Auto crashes claimed 2,673 lives in six months, says bureau


The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said no fewer than 2,673 people died in road accidents between January and June this year. The figure implies that an average of 15 persons were killed daily by crashes nationwide during the period under review.

The bureau, in its Road Transport Data for the first and second quarters of the year posted on its website yesterday, further clarified that 1, 466 died in the first quarter while second quarter claimed 1,207 lives.

Lagos records 574 cases of domestic violence, sexual harassment


Governor Akinwumi Ambode says 574 cases of domestic violence and sexual harassment were recorded between last June and the sixth month of this year in Lagos State.

The disclosure comes in the wake of the death of a 14-year-old Junior Secondary School (JSS) student, Obiamaka Orakwue, who was recently raped to death in her Abule Ado neighbourhood of the state.
