A total of 141 civilians in Niger were killed, kidnapped or wounded by the Boko Haram jihadist group last year, a sharp fall compared with 2016, the UN said on Wednesday.

The toll in 2016 was 227 after 214 in 2015, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a report.

The Benue Government will bury 73 victims of the Jan. 1 attacks by suspected herdsmen tomorrow.

83 migrants missing after boat mishap in Mediterranean sea


About 83 migrants have been declared missing after their makeshift boat sank in the Mediterranean off the coast of Libya, the country’s navy said late Tuesday.

The inflatable boat was carrying more than 100 people when it went down, according to Navy spokesman Ayoub Kacem, who said rescuers had saved just 17 people, including some women.

Nigeria to grow by 2.5% in 2018, says World Bank


The World Bank forecasts that economic growth in Nigeria would edge up to at least 2.5 per cent in 2018, as the country benefits from improved commodity prices, investments and trade.
According to the World Bank’s January 2018 Global Economic Prospect report launched on Tuesday in Washington DC, Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to grow by 2.8 per cent in 2019 and 2020.
