Customs identifies, issues ultimatum to importer of military items allegedly owned by Kogi Govt


The Nigeria Customs Service said it has identified the importer of military wares which allegedly belong to the government of Kogi State. The customs ‎also said it issued a 30-day ultimatum to the importer.
The ultimatum was given for the importer to produce the End-User Certificate from the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Plane catches fire while landing, at least 40 dead, 23 injured


At least 40 people were killed and 23 injured when a Bangladeshi passenger plane crashed near Kathmandu airport Monday, an official said.

“Thirty-one people died at the spot and nine died at two hospitals in Kathmandu,” police spokesman Manoj Neupane told AFP, adding another 23 were injured.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said he was ‘surprised’ that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris disobeyed his directives to stay in Benue until the bloodletting between farmers and herdsmen was resolved.
Mr. Buhari also said his government was deeply worried about the incessant attacks on Benue’s rural communities and vowed to end the menace “very soon”.

An Ancona coùrt on Monday rùled that two of the three Nigerians arrested over the mùrder of Pamela Mastropietro, an 18-year-old Roman woman whose dismembered body was foùnd in two sùitcases near Macerata in Janùary, shoùld stay in jail. The sùspects are Desmond Lùcky and Lùcky Awelima, aged 22 and 27 respectively. They were arrested after the detention of another Nigerian, Innocent Oseghale, a 29-year-old who lived in the flat where the mùrder is thoùght to have taken place.

Five dead in New York river helicopter crash


Five people have died after a helicopter owned by a tour group plunged into Manhattan’s East River, police said on Monday.

The red chopper, which is owned by tourism group Liberty, was carrying six people including the pilot when it crashed into the river near the upscale Upper East Side neighborhood shortly after 7:00 pm (2300 GMT) on Sunday.

US Secretary Of State, Tillerson, Suspends Visit To Nigeria


The United States, U.S. Secretary of State, Mr. Rex Tillerson has cut short his first trip to Africa to return to Washington about one day ahead of schedule, according to a Reuters’ report from Nairobi, Kenya.

“Tillerson’s travel plans have changed so that he can return to Washington early on Tuesday morning instead of late that night, a spokesman for the top U.S. diplomat told reporters travelling with him,” the report said, citing the need for Tillerson “to deal with urgent work,” back home.

Nick Gordon, the former boyfriend of Bobbi Kristina Brown, was arrested Saturday in Florida on a domestic violence charge. In 2016 Gordon was found "legally responsible" for the death of Bobbi Kristina in a $36 million wrongful death lawsuit. A judge ruled against Gordon in the civil suit after he didn't show up to two separate hearings.
According to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office, Gordon was arrested on one charge of domestic battery. Gordon is scheduled to appear back in court on April 6 after posting a $500 bail.

Senate Confirms Members Receive N13.5 Million Monthly, Separate From Salaries


The Senate has formally confirmed that its members receive N13.5 million monthly as running cost.

PREMIUM TIMES reported how a Kaduna senator, Shehu Sani, confirmed the amount, which was hitherto kept from the public. The money is illegal as it is not approved by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). It is also separate from the salaries and allowances approved by RMAFC which, Mr. Sani says, totals about N750,000 monthly.

Police Arraign Teenager For Alleged Sodomy


Ondo State Police Command has arraigned a 17-year-old boy at a Juvenile Court in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The suspect, a pupil of St Joseph’s College, Ondo was accused of sodomising the eight-year-old son of a journalist.

Police spokesman Femi Joseph confirmed the arraignment while giving an update on the case.

Operatives of the Nigerian police have arrested one Pastor Charles Mgbe in Calabar, Cross River State capital for allegedly duping his lover and others a whooping seventeen million Naira (N17,000,000). It was gathered that, Pastor Mgbe allegedly sold 2 vehicles to a church member..

According to www.calitown.com, after collecting money for one of the vehicles, bought in partnership with his estranged lover, Mgbe is said to have informed his lover that payment for the vehicle was still outstanding. Acting on the wrong information he fed his lover, a widowed retiree, the police received from the lady. The complaint prompted a late night raid to recover the said vehicle.

South African Brothel Where Nigerians Were Arrested, To Be Demolished


According to reports, the brothel where 26 women and girls were rescued by security operatives on 16 December 2016 in South Africa, is going to be demolished following a successful forfeiture order granted by the North Gauteng High Court.

According to the South African Police Service, the Priority Crime Specialised Investigations (PCSI) unit of the Hawks in North West that specialises in asset and financial investigations made a submission to the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) to have the building on number 5 Viljoen Street in Pienaarsdorp be forfeited to the state.

Pakistantoday, reports that Ogbeh was arrested after the victim lodged a complaint against him on Saturday. The victim in his statement revealed how he was scammed by Ogbeh saying a UK number called him and offered to help him.

Bukola Saraki, the president of the Nigerian Senate, on Sunday, March 11, 2018, accepted the apology of Nigerian singer/songwriter, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa aka “Charlyboy”, who erroneously stated that an image of the Senate President’s 2012 visit to Ogoniland, was a picture of the Senate President after being chased by youths in Kwara.

After a series of Twitter users, including Saraki’s Head of New Media, Olu Onemola, called Charlyboy’s attention to the fact that the picture he posted was taken during then-Senator Saraki’s oversight visit to Ogoniland, as the Chairman of the 7th Senate’s Committee on Environment and Ecology, Charlyboy, who uses the @AreaFada1 handle on twitter, later apologized to the politician, stating that he was in a hurry to post before verifying the veracity of the story.

The politics of election order in Nigeria


Since Nigeria adopted the presidential system of government in 1979, the order in which elections are held into the various elective bodies has been of curious interest.  With political parties that are very weak in ideology, and a voting public that would rather identify with the “winning team”, the order of elections has hardly been accepted as a non-controversial aspect of our democracy.
The first set of elections under the Nigerian presidential system took place in July and August 1979.  The elections were contested in five consecutive stages: the Senate, the House of Representatives, the state Houses of Assembly, the governorship election, and the presidential election.
