According to South China Morning Post, the 26-year-old woman surnamed Ma was admitted to the maternity ward of Yulin No 1 Hospital in Shaanxi Province, northern China, last Wednesday. It was found out at the hospital that the baby’s head was big and it was Ma’s first birth so the doctors recommended the Caesarean Section.

South Sudan urged to delay polls and focus on peace deal


Experts and civil society groups on Wednesday urged South Sudan to delay conducting general elections early next year and instead focus on the implementation of the August 2015 peace deal to end over three years of civil war.

The South Sudanese Network for Democracy and Elections (SSuNDE), a network of more than 70 civil society organisations, said the current situation in South Sudan makes it practically impossible to conduct credible elections within the remaining time frame of the peace deal, which is set to expire in March 2018.

Buhari said he would not seek re-election in 2019 – minister


Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari told members of his party before he was first elected that he would only seek one term, implying he did not intend at that time to run in 2019, the minister of women’s affairs told Reuters on Wednesday.

The comments by Aisha Alhassan could heighten uncertainty over whether Buhari plans to contest the next election. Buhari took power in 2015 but has been absent for much of this year due to illness. He is yet to say if he will seek a second term.

Suspected bomb lab found near Paris, two arrested


A suspected bomb-making laboratory was discovered Wednesday in an unoccupied apartment in a Paris suburb, leading to two arrests, sources close to the probe said.

Gas canisters, electric wiring and chemicals that could be used to make explosives were among items found in the flat near Villejuif, south of the French capital, the sources said.

An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Wednesday remanded a sexagenarian, Adegboyega Abiose, in Agodi prison for allegedly causing the death of his brother, Olayinka, by setting him ablaze.

Two soldiers wounded in gun battle with oil thieves in Rivers


Two soldiers belonging to the 29 Battalion troops in Port-Harcourt, were wounded in a gun battle with armed oil thieves in Rivers State, a spokesperson has said.

121 Nigerians return from Libya


The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Wednesday said it had received another batch of 121 stranded Nigerians from Libya, making a total of 2,638 Nigerians repatriated since February.
