PSG doubled Man City’s wage offer to Dani Alves – report


Dani Alves turned his back on an agreement to join Manchester City after Paris Saint-Germain offered to double what the Premier League club had agreed to pay him, ESPN reports.
Alves, 34, had verbally agreed a two-year deal to be reunited with his former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola at City but is now set to sign a contract with Ligue 1 side PSG worth around £12 million a year.

South African Jazz Musician Ray Phiri Dies


The SABC on this morning reported that  South African jazz legend, Ray Phiri had died. The 70-year-old musician suffered from lung cancer and had recently been admitted to a hospital in Nelspruit.

In an interview with The Sowetan earlier this month Phiri asked for space and privacy during his sickbed. He told the newspaper: “Let me suffer [in peace with my] pain, on my own with my dignity.”

The conglomerate plans to increase its production of sugar to 1.5 million metric tons a year by 2020 from 100,000 tons now and is seeking to add 1 million tons of rice, Edwin Devakumar, executive director at Dangote’s industries unit, said Tuesday in an interview in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub. The company also plans to have 50,000 cattle producing 500 million liters of milk a year by 2019, he said.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested a 23-year-old man for raping his 58-year-old mother. According to Police report, the suspect raped his mum at her home in Ekuthuleni locality, Elliot on 3rd July 2017. After the dreadful act, he fled the area and couldn’t be traced.

It was on Monday, 10th July 2017 that members of the taxi association identified the suspect. They arrested him and handed him to the SAPS.

Suspected Internet fraudsters, popularly called Yahoo boys, have turned the Facebook page of the Special Fraud Unit of the Nigeria Police Force into an avenue to advertise their skills.

A jealous husband is now facing life in prison for chopping off his wife’s fingers because she refused to stop her education as he instructed.

The man, Rafiqul Islam, 30, reportedly blindfolded his wife Hawa Akhter, 21, taped her mouth in pretense of trying to surprise her only to cut off all five fingers. Ms Akhter’s fingers were then thrown into the dustbin by one of his relatives to ensure doctors could not reattach them.

John Sylvester Young, 29, has been jailed for up to 23 months after admitting statutory sexual assault and corruption of minors in Pittsburgh, Pennysylvania.

A court heard how Young accompanied the victim, who was related to the groom, during the wedding reception in September 2016.

Indian police rescue woman locked in dark room for 15 years


Police in the western Indian state of Goa on Wednesday claimed to have rescued a 50-year-old woman who had been locked in a dark room by her brother for 15 years.
The woman, identified as Sunita Verlekar, was rescued by police from her parents’ home in North Goa’s Candolim village, following a tip-off by a well-known women’s rights organisation, Bailancho Saad.

Another Ivory Coast footballer dies after collapsing on pitch in Abidjan


The Ivorian football federation has been struck with another major blow after 29-year-old Eugene Koffi Kouame who plays for Turkish side Egirdirspor died after collapsing during a football match at Koumassi Stadium in Abidjan South.

The striker was said to have been playing a football match with a group of friends on Monday, when he passed out and was rushed to a hospital. But emergency treatment failed to revive him. It was later confirmed that he had passed away.
