Monkey stole N70 million from senators’ farm house – Senator Shehu Sani


While Nigerians are still basking in the euphoria of a snake swallowing N36 million in Benue JAMB office, it has been alleged that monkeys have taken N70 million belonging to the Northern Senators Caucus.

The caucus had sacked Sen. Abdullahi Adamu as its chairman on Wednesday, following allegations of misappropriating N70m belonging to the group.

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Wednesday sentenced Obinna Iziejen, a 58-year-old paedophile, to 60 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 12-year-old pupil.

Iziejen was convicted of the offence of defilement on Feb. 15.

Transparency International (TI), has again ranked Nigeria low in its 2017 Corruption Perception Index (CPI) released on Wednesday.

The latest ranking has Nigeria in the 148th position out of 180. The country, according to the CPI, scored 28 out 100, a figure lower than the average in the Sub-Sharan region.

Two men arraigned for gang raping teenager in Lagos


Two men, Sunday Adeyemi, 20, auto mechanic and Michael Jonathan, 18, furniture maker, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly gang-raping a teenage girl.

The accused who reside in Ogba, a suburb of Lagos, are being tried for conspiracy, sexual assault and rape.

EFCC quizzes ex-army chief Azubuike Ihejirika over arms deal scandal


Anti-graft detectives at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, are questioning Azubuike Ihejirika, a former Chief of Army Staff, over his alleged involvement in the $2.1 billion arms procurement scandal, sources at the commission have said.

Mr. Ihejirika, a retired lieutenant-general, arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja around 11:00 a.m. Wednesday and was subsequently ushered into an interrogation room.

First lady Melania Trump’s parents have become permanent US residents, their lawyer said Wednesday, apparently taking advantage of a family unification program pilloried by the president.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons have stated that five of 16 rescued victims of alleged human trafficking at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, are below the age of 18.

The Head, Press and Public Relations of NAPTIP, Josiah Emerole, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Police have arrested a 30-year-old pastor suspected to have impregnated two primary school siblings aged 15 and 17 years respectively.

Pastor of Unabii Christian Church, Kenya, Alfred Maingi Ndolo, was apprehended after the two orphaned girls who lived with their grandmother, disclosed that they had both been having sexual relationships with the pastor and were pregnant.

Japan orders Chinese ships not to approach disputed islands


Japanese officials ordered three Chinese coast guard vessels to leave what Japan considers its territorial waters near a group of disputed islets in the East China Sea, a local media reported on Wednesday.

The local media said that the three ships left the area around noon (0300 GMT) after sailing around the Japanese-administered Senkaku Islands for about two hours.

Mass grave of Islamic State hostages discovered in Eastern Afghanistan


Officials on Wednesday discovered bodies of at least 10 people, who are supposed to have been hostages of the Islamic State terrorist group, in a mass grave in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province.

According to the TOLOnews media outlet, citing local officials, the grave was discovered in Momand Dara area of Achin district, which is known as an IS stronghold.

A woman living alone in a home awarded to her husband in a divorce started a fire in the living room that quickly spread to 19 other houses, causing more than $1 million in damage, according to reports on Tuesday.
 
The woman, whom officials identified as Adrienne Satterly, 41, started a blaze in a stack of mattresses early Sunday in her home in Hiram, then drove off with her two cats, WSB-TV reported.

Court adjourns Dasuki’s case 22 March


An FCT High Court, on Wednesday adjourned until March 22,  continuation of hearing in the case involving former National Security Adviser, retired Col Sambo Dasuki, pending outcome of judgment of the Supreme Court on his appeal.

The judge, Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf, adjourned the case after Dasuki’s counsel Mr Adeola Adedipe, holding the brief of Mr Joesph Daudu (SAN) applied for adjournment.

Kaduna APC suspends Senator Hunkuyi


The All Progressives Congress (APC) Kaduna chapter has suspended the senator representing Kaduna North senatorial district in the National Assembly.

Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi was suspended for six months over alleged anti-party activities, alongside a former interim Chairman of Kaduna South Local Government Area, Yahaya Shinko, and 27 other members.

Four Arrested For Murder Of PDP Chieftain In Rivers


Four out of the five suspects allegedly involved in the murder of a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State, Heaven Ihuigwe, were paraded on Tuesday at the State Police Command in Port Harcourt.

Scarcity looms as oil marketers plan shut down of fuel depots, mass sack


The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) says it will sack its staff, numbering over 10,000, and shut down all its depots in less than 14 days.
DAPPMAN made this known in a letter sent to Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, minister of state for petroleum resources.
The letter, signed by Olufemi Adewole, DAPPAM’s executive secretary, was dated February 20.

Parading the group Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, disclosed that the syndicate comprised of three splinter groups visiting choice locations in the state to rob members of the public of their phones.

A 34-year-old man has approached the Igando Customary court for dissolution of marriage after accusing his wife of being pregnant for her boyfriend.
Ola Ismaila, an indigene of Ede, Osun State, said he got to know about his wife’s supposed pregnancy when she started having stomach pains.
Mr. Ismaila said his suspicion was confirmed when he caught his wife, Aminat, patronising a midwife for a pregnancy test and possible abortion.
