Robbery Suspects Arrested By Police Officers In Lagos


Four suspects were arrested in Oshodi last week with the aid of Rapid Response Squad mobile Close Circuit Television (CCTV). The four suspects were caught on the footage of the mobile CCTV camera stationed in Oshodi to assist the officers of Rapid Response Squad in their surveillance activities in the area.

The suspects, Jelili Ganiu (19), Samson Owolabi (23), Segun Lawoye (47) an ex convict and Toyin Samuel (38) were arrested in Oshodi on Thursday and Friday.

Airport Guard Bolts With Passengers’ N83m


A former security guard with the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO), David Akinniran, who allegedly absconded after stealing $230,000 (about N83, 030,000) from two passengers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, was on Monday brought before a Lagos High Court in Igbosere.

Akinniran, 40, was arraigned by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) before Justice Agnes Nicole-Clay.

Police arraign Enugu psychiatric hospital staff over N14m job scam


The Nigeria Police Force on Monday arraigned Mrs. Stella Achara, a staff of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu, over an alleged N14 million job scam.

Achara, Principal Secretary to the Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Jojo Onwukwe, was docked before Hon. Justice C. O. Ajah of Enugu High Court for advanced fee fraud.

In the charge No. E/197C/2017, the police accused Achara of defrauding job seekers to the tune of N14m.

Lagos abolishes cash payment in revenue collection


Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Monday paid his Land Use Charge, with an announcement that the State Government will no longer accept cash payment in revenue collection effective from March 1, 2018.

Speaking shortly after paying at Opebi branch of Guaranty Trust Bank in the presence of top management staff of the bank, Governor Ambode said the measure was aimed at improving on service delivery to residents of the State and as well block all revenue leakages.

Furious 73-year-old man allegedly stabs nephew, 50, to death in Lagos


A septuagenarian, Emmanuel Ajasa, was on Monday brought before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for the murder of his nephew, whom he allegedly stabbed to death.

Ajasa, 73, is to remain behind bars, pending receipt of legal advice from the office of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions, the Magistrate, Mrs O.O.A. Fowowe-Erusiafe, ruled.

The All Progressives Congress in Kaduna State, loyal to Governor  Nasir el-Rufai, on Monday upturned the six-month suspension order slammed on him by a faction of the party.
Two factions of the party — the ‘Akida APC’ and the ‘Restoration APC’ — had, after a stakeholders’ meeting on Sunday, announced the suspension of the governor for six months over what they described as “anti-party activities.”

Oxfam says Haiti director admitted using prostitutes


Oxfam’s country director in Haiti admitted to using prostitutes at his residence during a relief mission before resigning in 2011, according to an internal investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct released by the charity on Monday. 

It is the first time Oxfam has directly addressed accusations against Roland Hauwermeiren, who has denied paying for sex with prostitutes or abusing minors. He ran the Oxfam operation in Haiti after an earthquake in 2010 and resigned in 2011.

Joseph Tselayarona, 28, was executed on Saturday after the 2010 murder of his girlfriend and her three-year-old son, the Botswana Prison Service said.

CCTV catches Lagos couple robbing commuters


Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a couple after they were allegedly caught on a mobile Closed Circuit Television camera robbing some commuters.

The police said the suspects – Segun Latoye and Toyin Samuel –were arrested on Friday after being caught on camera three times in Oshodi dispossessing passersby of their belongings.

‘Uber Chap Chap’ maybe on its way to Nigeria soon


Uber, the leading ridesharing app is currently testing the “Uber Chap Chap”, service in Nairobi, Kenya.

One in three Nigerian households consume contaminated water – Report


About one in three households in Nigeria consume contaminated water, a survey by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed.

The survey was carried out in 2016/2017 by the NBS in collaboration with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) and the National Agency for the Control of Aids (NACA) as part of the global Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) programme.
