Former Italian PM Berlusconi’s ex-wife ordered to repay $70million in alimony


Italy’s former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi won an appeal against paying his ex-wife alimony on Thursday, as a court told Veronica Lario to repay cheques totalling some 60 million euros ($70 million).

The Milan court decided in favour of the 81-year-old billionaire, who had insisted Lario was wealthy enough to support herself with her portfolio of 16 million euros, family jewels and publishing house, Italian media reported.

Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal won a defamation case against former French health and sports minister Roselyne Bachelot on Thursday after she accused him of doping on television.

Bachelot was handed a 500-euro (600-dollar) fine by a court in Paris and ordered to pay 12,000 euros in damages and legal fees to the serial Grand Slam winner over the allegation she made to the D8 channel in March 2016.

Court sentences woman to jail for stealing recharge cards worth N4.2m


A 31- year-old woman, Kemi Fabiyi, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment with hard labour by an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court for stealing recharge cards worth N4.2 million

The convict with no fixed address was charged to court on a one-count charge of stealing.

According to Police Prosecutor, Sunday Eigbejiale, the convict committed the offence on August 3 at Ibara area of the state at about 9.15 a.m.

Three Ohio pastors are facing life imprisonment for sex trafficking underage girls.

Post-mortem examinations on the bodies of 26 teenage migrant girls found dead in the Mediterranean in early November confirmed they almost all drowned at sea, Italian news agencies reported Wednesday.

Nigeria remains third most terrorised nation, says report


A global report released yesterday says Nigeria remains one of the three most terrorised nations in the world.

The 2017 Global Terrorism Index (GTI) also indicates that killing of innocent people by the Boko Haram insurgents in the North east has decreased by 80 per cent. According to the document, Nigeria got the same ranking in 2015 and 2016. It was ranked fourth in 2014.
