Man pours acid on wife's private part for refusing him sex


A man poured acid on the private parts of his wife after she refused to have sex with him in Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj district, police said on Tuesday.

The incident happened in Behrin village of Tirva in Kannauj district. 

Station House Officer (SHO) Amar Pal Singh said a case has been lodged against the husband for victimizing and assaulting his wife and he would be arrested soon.

China produced over 1.26 billion mobile phones in the first eight months of the year, including 932 million smartphones, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Liberia court delays vote hearing till Friday


Liberia’s supreme court has delayed until Friday a hearing on the country’s disputed presidential election, increasing the likelihood that an impending runoff vote will be delayed.

A court spokesman told AFP late Wednesday that the hearing, which will give the country’s electoral commission a chance to defend its handling of the first round of the elections on October 10, would not take place on Thursday as planned for procedural reasons.

Burundi bans women from playing traditional drums


Burundi’s president, Pierre Nkurunziza, has introduced strict controls over the country’s renowned drumming rituals, banning female drummers and limiting the sacred tradition to official events.

“It is strictly forbidden to those of the female sex to beat drums. They can however carry out female folk dances accompanying the drums,” read a decree seen by AFP Thursday, that was signed late last month.

Tanzania sentences 34 people to death for killing people with albinism


Tanzania’s Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) said on Thursday at least 34 people have been sentenced to death by hanging during for killing people with albinism in the country.

Beatrice Mpembo, a State Attorney from the DPP told a two-day consultative meeting to strategise on countering brutality and killings of people with albinism that the convictions were from 2006 to 2016.

FG owes Nigerian students on scholarship N2.4bn


The director in charge of scholarships at the Federal Scholarship Board has said N2.4bn is being owed Nigerian students who are studying overseas due to inadequate or lack of budgetary provisions.

The director, Fatima Ahmad, said there was an outstanding scholarship allowance to the tune of N799.8m in 2015 and 2016, out of which Ñ444.2m has been paid, leaving a balance of Ñ355.6m.

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Wednesday, told an Abuja High Court that one of the nine suspects docked over allegations of inserting several ghost workers on the payroll of the Federal Government operated about 200 different accounts with banks in Abuja, while another has over 50 houses.

The defendants— Dayo, Opeyemi, Adedokun, Sylvanus, Ayodeji, Dada, Dada, Ejeh and Taiwo— were arraigned before an Abuja High Court at Apo.
