Gunmen Abduct Bauchi Assembly Member


A member of the Bauchi House of Assembly, Hon. Yusuf Nuhu is reported by the Bauchi State Police Command to have been abducted by unknown gunmen.
Nuhu who represents Lame Constituency of the State Legislature is reported to have been abducted by the unknown Gunmen at about 7pm, Monday evening at his residence in Zalau Village in Toro local government area.


DSP Haruna Mohammed, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), while confirming the abduction of the law maker, told Leadership in Bauchi that the police have gone after the gunmen and that while the gunmen were being pursued by the police, they abandoned their vehicle.

“We received a report that on 3 March, 2014, at about 19:00 hours, that unknown gunmen abducted a State House of Assembly Member representing Lame District, One Hon. Yusuf Nuhu in his residence at Zalau village in Toro LGA,” the police image maker said.
According to Mohammed, “Due to hot pursuit of the miscreants by the police, Suspects abandoned their vehicle, one green Golf 3 Wagon at Rahama village, a border town between Toro and Saminaka of Kaduna State.”

The police said they recovered several items from the vehicle abandoned by the gunmen. “The following exhibits were recovered: Eight live ammunition of SMG Rifle, and other items,” Mohammed told LEADERSHIP.

He said the police are on the trail of the gunmen and that there is a collaborative search ongoing between a joint police and vigilante group for the kidnapped legislator.
“Meanwhile, joint police and vigilante group had condoned the entire area in order to arrest the culprits. Investigation is in progress,” said Mohammed.

The abduction of the Bauchi legislator is coming in less than twenty four hours after the kidnapping of three health workers in Darazo local government area on Sunday, 2 March, 2014. Two of the health workers have been released by the gunmen while a third is still being held.

Similarly, a forth night ago, the police said it foiled an assassination attempt on the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Shira Local Government Area, when it arrested two suspected assassins and recovered some ammunitions from them
