Arsenal legend Pires comes out of retirement

Robert Pires has completed his anticipated return to football by joining FC Goa in the new Indian Super League.
The new tournament – which is comparable to cricket’s IPL or Major League Soccer in the USA, with teams operating as franchises – launches in October and will run until December.

The Arsenal legend retired in 2011 after a stint with Aston Villa, but despite being 40 will feature in the new tournament.
Pires made 284 appearances in six years at Arsenal before moving to Villarreal in 2006, and was part of the famous 2004 Invincibles side, winning a total of five major trophies.
There are eight teams in the new league, all representing different cities in India.
Other star names joining Pires in the ISL include his former Arsenal team-mate Freddie Ljungberg (Mumbai City), Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero (Delhi Dynamos), former France striker David Trezeguet (Pune City) and ex-England goalkeeper David James (Kerala Blasters).
