Mourning, Commotion as Flood Kills Village Head, Five Others In Niger


Mallam Abdulmumuni Mohammed, a village head, and six others have been killed in a flood that caused havoc in Mashegu and Borgu local government areas of Niger state, The Nation reports.
 
The flood which wreaked havoc on the two local government areas also destroyed 600 houses.
 
The heavy downpour which lasted for many hours at night in Ibbi town in Mashegu local government area washed away over 500 animals and farmlands.
 
The Borgu local government Chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Baba Suleiman confirmed the incident saying that the Village head of Saudi was the only one who died in the flood.
 
The Chairman of Mashegu local government, Alhaji Shuaibu Kaboji said that the affected persons are now taking refuge in the school and neigbouring villages.
 
He appealed to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) and other relevant agencies to come to the aide of the affected persons who are now displaced temporarily due to the flood.
 
The Director General of NSEMA, Alhaji Ibrahim Inga confirmed the incident saying that relief materials would soon be made available to provide succor for the affected victims.
