Investigation launched after 'woman's hijab ripped off on London Underground'

An investigation has been launched after man allegedly tried to pull a woman’s hijab off on the London Underground.

Officers were called following the incident at Baker Street Tube Station yesterday evening.


A woman claimed that a man had ‘forcefully attempted’ to pull off her hijab.
She added that when she grabbed a hold of the scarf, the man hit her.
British Transport Police confirmed officers are looking into the incident, and that an investigation has been launched.

Taking to social media after the incident, the woman said: ‘He proceeded to verbally abuse my friends and I, pinning one of them against the wall and spitting in her face.
‘The woman was throwing out threats and was also verbally abusive.

‘He forcefully attempted to pull my hijab off and when I instinctively grabbed a hold of my scarf he hit me.’
Since being uploaded, the post has been retweeted almost 9,000 times.
A spokesperson for BTP said: ‘Behaviour like this is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
‘This incident has been reported to us and we’re investigating’.
