Nigeria drop 6 places in latest FIFA rankings

Nigeria have dropped six places to 44 in the world in the latest FIFA Rankings released today despite a 4-0 home win over higher ranked Cameroon in a World Cup qualifier earlier this month.

The Super Eagles are also fifth in Africa.

The consolation is that are now better ranked than Cameroon, who are 45th in the world and sixth in Africa, after they beat the African champions 4-0 in Uyo and held them to a 1-1 draw in Yaounde to stay on course for a sixth World Cup final appearance.

Nigeria’s only rival to next year’s World Cup, Zambia, are still a lowly 78th in the world and 16th in Africa.

Both teams clash in a crunch World Cup qualifier on October 7 in Uyo.

The Eagles top Group B with 10 points, three points ahead of second-placed Zambia.

Nigeria need a win to seal their qualification to Russia 2018.
