Security guard arrested for abduction of Lebanese boss

The Oyo State Police Command, Eleyele Police Headquarters, Ibadan, has arrested four men, alleged to be part of a kidnapping syndicate that abducted a Lebanese man in September.

The four suspects have been identified as Monday Omubge (28), who is said to be the armourer of the gang, Mathew Egbulu (23), Samuel Agu (32), and Joseph Udoma (35).

The suspects were among 42 suspected criminals arrested and paraded for various alleged crimes.‎

Speaking on his involvement, Joseph Udoma said: “It was a friend of mine, Sunday, now at large, that introduced the Lebanese to me. The Lebanese said that he needed a driver. So, I called one of my friends, Mathew to apply for the job.  It was Mathew and the night guard of that block-making industry that asked me to arrange for the abduction of the Lebanese.”
Exhibits recovered from the suspects are one cut- to- size single barrel locally- made gun; a Toyota 4 Runner Sport Utility vehicle with registration No. AKD 70 BU, a Samsung Ipad, one Nokia Mobile Phone, shoes and other items.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Odude, recalling how the Lebanese was abducted, said that the gunmen invaded an automated block making industry owned by the Lebanese, Mr Elias Bashour, around 10.30am, in Podo area, on September 13,  2017 and abducted  him. The gunmen also robbed his workers of phones, cash and other valuables.

The CP said: "We acted swiftly to the information given to us about the Lebanese abduction. We alerted our patrol teams along Ibadan-Ijebu Ode axis; we chased after the kidnappers and forced them to abandon their vehicle. Incidentally, the victim was inside the abandoned vehicle. The suspects managed to escape into the bush, but the Lebanese was rescued, while their vehicle was impounded. After painstaking investigations, three members of the gang were eventually arrested at their hideout in Ilese via Ijebu-Ode and Ibiade Waterside, both in Ogun State. The suspects have confessed to the crime. They would be charged to court very soon.”
