N1.7bn allegation: Publish my son’s account, Maina tells Magu

The Former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Taskforce Team, Mr Abdulrasheed Maina, has challenged the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Magu, to make public the said account allegedly owned by his son where N1.7 billion was said to have being lodged.


Maina, who spoke through his spokesman, Mohammed Sabo, described the allegation as a perpetual lie that was fabricated and as such had no substance. He said: “Show verifiable account number and the amount in the account to the public to independently verify.”

The former pension helmsman also added that if his son owned such huge amount of money, then returning to the civil service would have been a waste of his time. Based on this, he urged Magu to face the various corruption allegations hanging round his neck including the 222 properties he recovered from pension thieves.

He maintained that Magu had allegedly received about N19.8 billion and $5 million from the 43 pension suspects with the promise never to convict them. According to him, it is clear that after six years, there is no hope of conviction of the 43 pension thieves, some EFCC staff had recently written a petition against Magu of allegedly stealing their N750 million allowances from the coffers of EFCC.

This is corruption of the highest order. Maina, however, insisted that, for the avoidance of doubt, Magu should publish a verifiable document showing the said account and its balance, so that Nigerians would verify individually, stressing that such was a figment of Magu’s imagination that does not exist.
