HIV-positive track coach pleads guilty to sexually abusing students


A former Maryland school aide and track coach with HIV pleaded guilty Friday to sexually abusing students and filming child pornography.

Carlos Deangelo Bell, 30, entered a plea deal admitting guilt on 27 counts, including sexual abuse of a minor, porn charges, and attempted transmission of HIV, the state’s attorney for Charles County, Tony Covington, said, KTLA reported.


The offenses occurred over a period of about two years beginning in May 2015.The predator’s 42 victims ranged in age from 11 to 17 years old, Covington said.

Bell will be sentenced on March 28.

Covington said that one of his goals is to keep Bell in prison for life.

Prosecutors said they would recommend a sentence of up to 190 years in prison, KTLA reported.

Investigators aren’t aware of any victims who tested positive for HIV, Covington said, KTLA reported.

Bell worked as an instructional assistant at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School and as a track coach at La Plata High School.
