In a disturbing report of animal abuse, an Alabama man has been accused of sexually molesting a horse multiple times.
Daniel Bennett, 18, of the small community of Irvington, is facing multiple charges after he allegedly admitted to Mobile County Sheriff's Office investigators that he attempted to molest a horse locked in the barn stall of a local resident.
Owner Francine Janes told WPMI-TV that she went to investigate after her dogs' barking alerted her to something going on Thursday night. Accompanied by her husband, who was armed with a gun, the couple were led to their barn where they discovered Bennett hiding in a stall.
After confronting the teen, Janes says he gave the couple an explanation for being there. “He likes horses. He wanted to pet the horse.” Janes says her husband held the suspect at gunpoint until police could arrive.
Janes told investigators she believed Bennett had paid the horse, a 20-year-old mare named Polly, multiple visits throughout the month of December.
"I would say seven, maybe 10 times," Janes told WPMI. "Toilet paper had been left. The haystacks had been removed. Items had been turned over. And that's as far as I want to go."
The teen has been charged with possession of burglar's tools, sexual misconduct, and second-degree criminal trespassing. He's got a court date on Jan. 18.
