Thirty-one students of Ogba Junior Grammar School in Lagos, again, on Thursday, lost consciousness and were rushed to the hospital after inhaling chemical substances.
Occupants of a nearby shopping centre were also affected by the chemical substance, as many of them were forced to prematurely close their business operation for the day
The police in the state, however, insisted that only eight students were affected and that they were rushed to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital.
It will be recalled that a similar incident occurred in 2013, when dozens of students in the same school became unconscious after inhaling chemicals from a nearby chemical company leading to the closure of the company.
The latest victims of the chemical emission were said to be students from different classes who collapsed after inhaling the chemical substance from a nearby company.
The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the victims were immediately rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, where they had continued to receive medical attention.
An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, stated that the situation almost led to commotion as parents stormed the school premises to take their children home.
The deputy police image maker in charge of the state police command, Damasus Ozoani, confirmed the incident but insisted that only eight students were affected.
He also confirmed that the students became unconscious after inhaling the chemical. Policemen and officials of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Fire Brigade and other security agencies were at the scene to rescue the students.
The police acting image maker also stated that LASEPA had immediately begun investigations so as to ascertain the deadly chemical
