As Christian faithful in Nigeria join the rest of the world to observe this year’s Lenten period, the Northern States Governors’ Forum, has called on Nigerias to pray for solutions to the socio-economic and security challenges currently threatening the unity of the country.
Chairman of the Forum, Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, made the call on Thursday in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Danladi Ndayebo.
He called on Christians to conduct themselves very well during the Lenten season in order to get the blessings of God.
He reminded Christians that they “are obliged to fast, pray and abstain from heavy meals and other bad habits as well as give alms during the Lenten period,” and urged them to accord it all the necessary attention by being proactive in decisions and actions that would ensure their full participation in the fast.
Aliyu noted that the Ash Wednesday, which conotes the commencement of the 40-day Lenten season, was characterised by penance, reflection and fasting to prepare Christian faithful for Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday and should therefore be taken very seriously by all Christians.
