Former Arsenal defender Andre Santos has been hit with a £5,000 fine by current club Flamengo, after breaking a contractual agreement with the Brazilian club's shirt providers Adidas, reports Sport Witness.
According to Globosporte, the 30-year-old appeared on Brazilian television endorsing a bag and boots made by rival sports brand Nike.
Santos's failure to seek permission from Flamengo meant that he was in breach of contract. He was also supposed to inform the club that he would be wearing the official Adidas shirt on TV, but that was another oversight on the Brazil international's part.
Thankfully, Flamengo escaped a fine from the German sports brand after placing the blame solely on Santos, however, that didn't mean that the left-back escaped without punishment.
Of course, it's not the first time that the South American has hit the headlines for the wrong reasons, as Arsenal fans will remember well from his two-year stint in north London.
After arriving at the Emirates Stadium in 2011, Santos quickly became a cult figure for ridicule, having failed to make a significant impact in the Gunners first-team.
He is perhaps best remembered for requesting the shirt of former Arsenal striker Robin van Persie, at half-time during a high-profile defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford, which brought about widespread condemnation from supporters around the world.
Santos managed just 25 Premier League appearances during his two seasons in England, and was eventually sold by Arsene Wenger to Flamengo last summer.
