A 22-year-old woman was fatally stabbed during a fight in the French Quarter early Thursday, and investigators later obtained a warrant to arrest her cousin in the slaying.
Brittany Seymour was stabbed to death during a loud argument that began in the 200 block of Decatur Street about 1:15 a.m. and then escalated into a fight in the 300 block. Onlookers had broken up the scuffle when Seymour realized she had been cut, authorities said.

Seymour died at a hospital. Later, police spokesman Beau Tidwell said officers had obtained a warrant to jail Dannisha Green — described as Seymour's cousin — in the killing.
Seymour's mother, Kimi Seymour, said Brittany had bumped into her cousin while out celebrating her recent birthday at the House of Blues with her sister and a friend. Kimi Seymour said that to the best of her knowledge, her daughter and Green then began arguing over Seymour's ex-boyfriend — a topic that has long been a sore point between the two — and that led to the fatal fight.
Brittany Seymour had attended New Orleans East's St. Mary's Academy and hoped to become a nurse when she became at least the 89th homicide victim reported in New Orleans this year.
There have been seven killings reported in the city this month, one of which had resulted in an arrest as of Thursday evening.
