Jose Mourinho keen on Cristiano Ronaldo transfer for Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho would reportedly ‘relish’ the chance to work with Cristiano Ronaldo again as the club keep their eye on his transfer situation

The Red Devils boss managed his fellow countryman at Real Madrid and played a role in

helping the prolific forward become one of the finest players of his generation.

Ronaldo is now said to want out of Madrid due to the club failing to back him in the case of

his alleged tax fraud, and his agent Jorge Mendes has confirmed talks with Premier League clubs.

This seems to be catching United’s eye, with the Guardian claiming they’re showing a keen

interest in Ronaldo’s situation as a summer move looks increasingly on the cards, with

Mourinho said to ‘relish’ the prospect of striking a deal.

The 32-year-old, who scored 42 goals in 46 games to help Real Madrid win La Liga and the

Champions League last season, remains one of the best players on the planet and could

be ideal for United’s needs.

Mourinho has been in the hunt for a big-name attacking player this summer, but has so far

failed in his efforts to sign the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Romelu Lukaku and Andrea

Belotti, though reports suggest progress is being made in the pursuit of Ronaldo’s Real

team-mate Alvaro Morata.

Ronaldo has the qualities to strengthen a problem position for United, and is of course

proven in the Premier League from a hugely successful first spell with the club between

2003 and 2009.

The Portugal international would no doubt be expensive, but United could be in a good

position to swoop for him after getting Zlatan Ibrahimovic off their wage bill and with another

of their highest earners Wayne Rooney also possibly set to follow.

Ronaldo has been repeatedly linked with a return to United during his time at the Bernabeu,

but previous speculation over his future has always led to him signing a new and improved

contract with the Spanish giants.

Despite United’s interest in this transfer saga, there is some speculation that the player is

pulling a similar trick in order to get a pay rise again here.
