A Virginia woman and her two children were recently freed after being held hostage in their home for two years by the woman’s boyfriend. According to police, they were responding to a caller who said they had not heard from the woman and her family for a long time.
Upon arriving on the scene and knocking on the door, a man named Kariem Moore answered the door and was hesitant to let police in. While he was talking to police, the woman and her two children ran out of a side door on the house towards authorities.
Police noted that once the woman was taken away from the scene to a safe location, she revealed that she and her children were not allowed to leave the house in at least two years because of Moore.
Crime scene investigators told the press that blankets and other wide-spread materials were used to cover windows in the home. They also noted that the woman and her children were not kept in any type of cage or held by any type of restraint. Moore is currently being held without bond and is charged with battery, felony assault, and three felony counts of abduction.
