A 32-year-old banker and mother of two identified as Peace Uzezi Akpobaro, reportedly caused pandemonium in Iwhrekpokpor, Ughelli, Delta State, after she took an insecticide at her residence on Wednesday.

It was gathered that the lady who worked with one of the new generation banks along Market Road, Ughelli, had separated from her husband before their families reconciled them recently. However her husband continued to stay away from home despite the reconciliation, and was also away when she undertook the suicide move.

A friend of the late banker who spoke with Vanguard but pleaded anonymity, said;

“Her lifeless body was discovered in her apartment on Wednesday. She had been having issues with her husband. She took some drugs and an empty container of an insecticide, Sniper, was found near her corpse.”

Although efforts to get confirmation from the state Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, proved abortive, a police source in the area confirmed the incident.

He said “She returned home from work and took some mixtures. We are still investigating the matter.”

This is coming after it was reported that one Nkemjika Oyibe, a native of Ishinkwo, Abaomege community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has committed suicide. Her lifeless body, The Guardian gathered, was found hanging on a tree in Onyemem forest in the community.

The incident was confirmed to journalists yesterday in Abakaliki by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Loveth Odah, who noted that the command is still investigating the incident.

According to her, the town union president of the community (name withheld) had reported that upon getting information from a hunter who discovered the lifeless body of the deceased, he went to the forest with the deceased’s elder brother, Peter Onyibe, to see the body for himself.

“But I wonder why a person should commit suicide and the family did not suspect any foul play; unless the family knew that their sister was having problem and as a result of that, they were suspecting she would commit suicide. They should have also been eager to know what led to her committing suicide. There is a saying that life begins at 40. So, someone taking her life at 40 sounds strange,” she said.
