‘Why north is uncomfortable with restructuring’


The controversy over whether or not to restructure the country continued at the weekend with two elder statesmen, Malam Tanko Yakassai and Chief Bisi Akande as well as former Nigerian Ambassador to China, Olusola Onadipe expressing divergent positions on the matter.
The persistence of the calls for restructuring requires a decisive move by all the citizens to resolve the issue amicably instead of allowing it to breed ethnic suspicion and hostility.

Young Kenyan woman commits suicide after failed attempts to find justice for her 3-year-old daughter who was raped by ex-boyfriend


Brenda Akinyi Waru committed suicide after she was bullied online as she tried to find justice for her three-year-old daughter who was allegedly defiled by her ex boyfriend.

According to Facebook user Syombua Kibue, who shared the story online, the 29-year-old had reported the case at a police station and had slept with a police officer who requested for sex in exchange for help.

A High court in London has awarded former Delta state governor, James Ibori, a nominal £1( about N400) as damages over his claim of unlawful detention by British  Home Secretary Amber Rudd.

Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb agreed that Ibori, who spent years in UK jail for money laundering,  was unlawfully held for one day, 18 hours and 10 minutes between December 20 and 21 last year.

The victim, Adebayo Omoniyi, 38, lost the money to the herbalist, who promised to prepare a charm that would attract rich and famous clients to him.

Abiodun was arrested by operatives of the zonal Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (ZCIID), Onikan.

A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday sentenced a 32-year-old man, Kelechi Sunday, to two months imprisonment for stealing a cell phone worth N7,000.
The judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced the convict accordingly as he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Sadiq also ordered the convict to pay N7,000 as compensation to the complainant.

The father is being tried for defiling his own daughter, while the son, was arraigned for allegedly defiling the same girl (his step-sister).
