A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday sentenced a 32-year-old man, Kelechi Sunday, to two months imprisonment for stealing a cell phone worth N7,000.
The judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced the convict accordingly as he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Sadiq also ordered the convict to pay N7,000 as compensation to the complainant.
The judge warned the convict to be of good behaviour and to desist from committing crimes after serving out his punishment.
Sunday of Jabi Park, Abuja, was charged under Section 287 of the Penal Code.
Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, Mr Dalhatu Zannah, told the court that the matter was lodged at Utako Police Station, Abuja, by one Godwin Gabriel of Mpape village on May 11.
Zannah said that the convict committed the offence on the same date at about 8.00p.m.
He said that the convict boarded the complainant’s taxi from Mpape to Jabi Park.
According to Zannah, on their way to Jabi Park, the convict criminally stole the complainant’s phone valued at N7,000.
He said that the complainant reported the incident immediately which led to the arrest of the convict.
The prosecutor said that the convict admitted committing the offence, but all effort made to recover the phone proved abortive.
