Arsenal fan stabs Liverpool counterpart to death over loss

Kenya Police Officer for Imenti North reveals that the deceased was stabbed in the chest after they allegedly disagreed on the outcome of Saturday's match

A Kenyan fan who supports Liverpool was stabbed to death at Makutano Shopping Centre in Meru town by an agitated Arsenal counterpart after they allegedly disagreed over the outcome of Saturday's English Premier League match played at Anfield.

According to Kenyan newspaper People Daily, Imenti North police boss Tom Odero said David Mwangi (a boda boda operator) stabbed 25 year-old Anthony Mutethia on the chest.
“He was pronounced dead on arrival at Meru Level Five Hospital. The assailant ran away but his motorbike was taken to the police station by Makutano residents,” said Odero.

However, reports from revellers of an entertainment joint at Makutano revealed the two started arguing at the closing moments of the match. They alleged that Mwangi got bitter after Mutethia started mocking him and on their way out, the argument got nasty prompting him to stab the former.
“He was also drinking beer as the game proceeded and because Mutethia was also a bit drunk they could not have come to terms over their argument. This is just a game for entertainment and he should not have got so tempered,” said a reveller, who had accompanied Mutethia.

Police have launched investigations to establish the motive of the alleged murder. Livepool beat Arsenal 5-1 to dent Gunners' hopes of winning Premiership title. On December 8, last year, a young man believed to be a Manchester United fan committed suicide in Nairobi’s Pipeline Estate after the team lost 1-0 to Newcastle.

Jimmy Macharia, 23, is said to have jumped from the seventh floor of a building after learning that his team had lost the match. And in May 2012, an Arsenal fan, Suleiman Alfonso Omondi, 29, committed suicide after his team lost.

His body was found dangling from a rope in his house in the Pipeline Estate, Nairobi, while on September 9, 2011, another Arsenal die hard was stabbed to death by a Blackburn Rovers supporter during an argument in Kapkatet, Nandi North after the Gunners lost 4-3 to Blackburn in a league match.
