One dies during scramble for LG boss’ N20,000 gift

At least one person was killed while many others sustained injuries during the scramble for about N20, 000 by some touts in the Ijora area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the deceased, Saheed Adio, was stabbed to death by some persons during the scramble around 7UP area on March 22, 2014.
According to Police authorities, trouble started after the Chairman, Ajeromi/Ifelodun Local Council Development Area, Shuaib Oromobo, aka Ajidagba, gave the N20, 000 to some hoodlums to share.
 
It was said that in the process, Adio, who was an ad-hoc employee of the LCDA was stabbed to death. Adio’s role in the sharing of the N20,000 could not be ascertained.
It was learnt that a friend to the deceased reported the matter at the Ajegunle Police Division and the police immediately swung into action.

It was learnt that two men identified as Hakeem Adebare aka Ote; and Wasiu Raji aka Always, were arrested.
Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, confirmed to our correspondent that two people had been arrested for murder while others were still at large.
Braide said the matter was under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.
 
She said, “On March 22, 2014, around 7pm, there was a social function around 7UP area of Ijora and the LCDA chairman gave out N20,000 to some boys to share and a fight ensued.
“In the scuttle, an employee of the LCDA, Saheed Adio, was stabbed to death. The matter was reported at the station and the police were able to arrest two men, identified as Hakeem Adebara, aka Ote, and Wasiu Raji, aka Always. They are at the SCID.
“The matter is under investigation at the SCID and efforts are on to arrest the remaining suspects at large.”
When contacted on the telephone, the council chairman said he could not discuss with our correspondent on the telephone and directed him to the SCID to get the details.
“Your story is not right. I cannot talk to you on the telephone, come to my office or go to the SCID to get the proper information,” he said.
