Operators of unregistered and substandard higher institutions across Delta State especially Asaba, Okpanam and its environs are reportedly on the run after allegedly defrauding unsuspecting students N6.4million in the last one year.
Police public relations officer in the state, DSP Celestina Kalu, confirmed that the police have commenced full-scale investigation of 13 privately owned higher institutions operators after they had allegedly ripped off their students an unspecified amount running into millions of naira.
The state government, through the Ministry of Higher Education, had last week uncovered 216 illegal higher institutions operating within the metropolis of Asaba and Okpanam.
The government, in a statement by the Director of Information, Mr Paul Osahor, stated that it has “observed with dismay that some persons are operating tertiary vocational institutions in the state illegally despite several warnings on the need for them to regularise the operations of their institutions with the state’s ministry of higher education.
“Parents and their wards are by this announcement advised to desist from patronising unaccredited institutions as they stand the risk of being duped as the state ministry of higher education clearly indicates that the following institutions: Millicent School of Catering, Prudent Vocational Institute, St. Dream School Catering, Noble Computer Institute, Easy Computer School Agbor, Anslem Computer School Ogwashi-Uku, Cubean ICT Academy Issele-Uku, Global Maritime Academy Ogoni-Olomu, Rolof Computer Ltd Warri, Marlydia Institute of Vocational and Management Studies Udu, Akor-Bek Institute of Vocational and Management Studies Udu, Conarina Maritime and Transport Technology Abraka, and JD Computer Tech Ogwashi-Uku, are illegal and not registered”.
