The Benue Police Command has today confirmed that a three-month old baby belonging to one Mr Ikyavngi Imande had been stolen in Makurdi.

The baby was stolen on 19 April at about 8.00 pm on Inikpi street, High Level, Makurdi.
Daniel Ezeala, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), said in Makurdi that the command had opened full investigation into the matter. He said that the police has arrested one suspect, while others were at large.

The police prime suspect was identified as Chichi, who was in Makurdi to adopt a baby, but was turned down by the government officials.
Msendoo Ikyavngi, mother of the missing baby, said that the baby was stolen in her house. “It was on Saturday evening (19 April) around 8.00 p.m. that Chichi, the girlfriend of my neighbour, Mr Amos, came to my house, tricked my nanny and stole my baby.

“My baby was crying at the time and Chichi offered to placate her. She sent my nanny to get water for her to drink. But it was then that Chichi ran away with my baby right in my house.
“This happened when I had dashed out of the house to buy food items. We have been seeing her recently and we felt she was a friend,” she lamented.
Msendoo said that all efforts to contact Chichi through the telephone had proved abortive.
