The Kwara State Police Command reports that its operatives have succeeded in killing a notorious criminal suspected to be a renegade police officer from Okene, Kogi State, in a fierce gun battle that lasted the whole of nine hours, at the Pakata area of Ilorin, the capital of the state.
The Vanguard Newspaper reports that the Anifowoshe community in the area was turned into a war zone as a combined team of Army, Air Force and Police laid siege on the gangster who refused to give up till the very end when he was gunned down.
The suspect, who was reported to be in his 30s, had rented an apartment in the area for his wife and aged mother and from there, he launched various operations on the state and its environs.
The security operatives, having gotten wind of his hideout, laid ambush for him and in the ensuing shootout that followed, he was mauled down.
But before he died, he was said to have seriously injured a member of the team.
Eyewitnesses said the gun battle lasted from 2am to 11 am on Sunday, 1st March, 2015.
