Police begin manhunt for herbalist that treats robbery suspects

Detectives attached to the Enugu State Police Command have begun a manhunt for an herbalist who used to treat robbery suspects of bullet wounds.

The clinic of the herbalist, located at Orba, Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu, was said to have been invaded and raided by policemen after they received information that the herbalist was treating a robbery suspect.
A police source said that the Command has intensified the manhunt for the fleeing herbalist, names withheld.

The herbalist fled his clinic, leaving the injured suspect to his fate. When police stormed the clinic, they found and arrested the suspect.
The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Superintendent of Police (SP), Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, said that the herbalist abandoned his herbal clinic because he didn’t want to be arrested.
Amaraizu added: “We heard the herbalist took the suspected armed robber, identified as Ambrose Okwudili Ugwu, from Isiamaelu Village, Ohodo in Igboetiti Local Government Area of Enugu State, into his clinic.

The herbalist was giving the suspect treatment until policemen, who got a tip-off about his activity, stormed the clinic. But the herbalist had already bolted before police got there. But the robbery suspect was promptly arrested with bullet injury.”
The police image maker continued: “The suspect, alongside others, blocked Enugu/Markurdi Expressway by Echara Ohodo with heavy logs of wood and held motorists hostage.

They held the motorists hostage until around 2am on that fateful June 18, 2016, when a combined team of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Enugu State and military men, acting on a tip-off, swung into action. In the ensuing gun duel, some hoodlums, hit by police bullets, escaped into the bush.”
According to Amaraizu, it was on July 1st that through intelligence gathering, the clinic raided.
One of the robbery suspects was nabbed with bullet wounds, while still receiving treatment. Amaraizu said that the suspect was assisting the police in its investigations.
