Arsene Wenger has given the go-ahead for Arsenal to sign Eibar centre-back Florian Lejeune, according to reports in Spain.
Marca claim that Arsenal scouts have been monitoring the 25-year-old’s progress in La Liga and have been impressed with his performances.
The Gunners are very interested in completing a deal this summer and a move for the central defender is expected to cost around €10 million (£8.7m).
Lejeune joined Manchester City from Girona for £215,000 in 2015 but was immediately loaned back to the Spanish club.
Eibar then snapped up the Frenchman in a £1.3 million transfer last summer without him playing a single minute for City.
Lejeune, who was born in Paris but has not represented France since Under-20 level, has been one of Eibar’s most consistent performers this season and has helped the club rise to eighth in La Liga.
