Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas has become the first player ever to record ten or more assists in six different Premier League seasons.
Diego Costa and Marcos Alonso opened the scoring against Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge on Monday night but it was the third goal from Nemanja Matic which turned Fabregas into a history-maker.
The Spaniard, who of course spent eight seasons at Arsenal, dinked the ball into the path of Matic and the Serbian finished confidently past Brad Guzan to make it 3-0 to Antonio Conte’s side.
Fabregas’ assist took him to ten for the season to reach the milestone and the effort put him two behind Christian Eriksen and Gylfi Sigurdsson for the 2016/17 campaign.
Ahead of the clash with Boro, Fabregas said: We have to do our job: play very well to beat a Middlesbrough side who want to stay in the league. It will be tough.
‘We have to be on top of our game today. Winning would mean a lot to the team and the club.
‘Hopefully we can do that.’
