Sergio Aguero ‘very happy’ to break Manchester City goalscoring record

Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero says he is “very happy” after becoming the club’s all-time top goalscorer.

Aguero surpassed Eric Brook’s 78-year record after scoring his 178th goal for City in all competitions.

The Argentine scored in City’s 4-2 win against Napoli which sealed qualification to the last-16 of the Champions League.

Aguero’s goal put his side 3-2 up as City recovered from going a goal down after 21 minutes to win.

Aguero said: “I am very happy for this moment. I am more happy for the win and to qualify, I am very happy today.

“I don’t know (how many more I can score) I think every game to play 100%, I don’t know how many more I can score. I just need to play the same way. To work”

Aguero has not only moved passed the likes of Brook, Tommy Johnson and Colin Bell in the scoring charts in recent seasons but has done it playing considerably less games.

When the the 29-year-old equalled Brook’s record against Burnley last month he did so having played 232 games less.

It capped a memorable night for Manchester City, who have qualified for the knockout stages for the fifth successive season and extended their unbeaten run to 22 games in all competitions.
