A Palestinian wearing what appears to be a suicide belt was shot dead after stabbing an Israeli soldier as violence escalated in the West Bank and Gaza on Friday. Israeli troops shot dead four Palestinians in total – including a man in a wheelchair – and wounded 150 others with live fire, medical officials said.
Reuters witnesses said the Palestinian had a knife and wore what looked like a bomb belt. A Palestinian medic said the belt was fake and pictures showed it still attached to him as he was loaded into an ambulance.
The deaths come as protests over U.S. President Donald Trump ‘s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital entered a second week.
Most of the casualties were on the Gaza Strip border, where thousands of Palestinians gathered to hurl rocks at Israeli soldiers beyond the fortified fence and where two protesters were killed, one of them wheelchair-bound, and 150 were wounded according to medics.
