Jose Mourinho has investigated the possibility of re-signing Javier Hernandez this summer, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The Mexico international was sold to Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015 for £7.3 million having previously spent a year on loan at Real Madrid.
Mourinho has publicly criticised his predecessor Louis van Gaal for allowing the 28-year-old to leave Old Trafford and claimed Hernandez would have scored 20 goals this season were he still playing for Manchester United.
Hernandez himself appeared to endorse Mourinho’s message by retweeting and liking several posts on Twitter linking to reports of the Special One’s words of praise.
Mourinho is expected to add to his strikeforce over the summer having watched his forwards squander more clear cut chances than any other team in the Premier League, while he will also be without Zlatan Ibrahimovic, should he remain at the club, for the foreseeable future following his serious knee injury.
United are expected to push ahead with plans to sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madird and are reportedly in the running for Everton’s Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata who are both wanted by Chelsea as well.
But Mourinho is now also said to be making enquiries for Hernandez, who scored 37 goals in 103 Premier League appearances for United between 2010 and 2015.
