Man, 57, bags 14-year jail term for raping 4 year old stepdaughter

Justice Toyin Abodunde of an Ado-Ekiti High Court has sentenced a 57-year-old man, David Oluwatoba, to 14 years imprisonment for raping his 4-year-old stepdaughter (names withheld).

While sentensing Oluwatoba on Wednesday, the judge ruled that the prosecution had proved the case beyond every reasonable doubt based on the weight of evidence before the court, adding that the prison term started counting from the day of conviction.

The incident happened on 12th August, 2013 at Odo Usi Street, Awo Road, Igede-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state while the convict was first arraigned in court on 27th November, 2015.

Some of the exhibits tendered to nail Oluwatoba included photographs, medical report on the sexual assault, statement of the accused at the police station, among others.

On the day of the incident, the victim’s mother, who is the second wife of the convict, was said not to be at home and the convict had a knowledge of the girl after bathing her.

It was gathered that on arrival, the mother discovered blood stains on the victim’s cloth and also the bleeding from her private part which prompted her (the mother) to raise the alarm.

Upon reporting the incident at Igede-Ekiti Police Divisional Headquarters, the convict was promptly arrested.
